Trommels are used to separate materials by size. This is achieved by predefining the size of the materials that need to be separated, then the area of the internal cylinder is perforated accordingly. They can be used to separate the biodegradable proportion from mixed waste, recyclable materials such as newspaper or cardboard or different sizes of crushed stone. A more recent application; Nicholls used the Trommel for the removal of glass from municipal solid waste. This will allow for the waste to be sold and meet legislation instead of incurring costs from landfill.
There are varying sizes available from Nicholls that can be adapted to suit a vast range of applications.
