Nicholls Air Knife Separation is an innovative solution for removing the light 'unpickable' fractions such as plastic, paper, foil and film from the comingled materials, a manual process that is very labour intensive, time consuming and not as effective. The Air Knife solution is a very worthwhile addition to the MRF for reducing overall labour and operating costs.
Typically installed at the junction between two conveyor belts, the unit consists of an air flow through a fully adjustable nozzle that works in conjunction with one of Nicholls extraction hoods. As the material falls under gravity onto the next conveyor, it passes through the air stream created by the nozzle, it is at that point the lighter materials are blown into the receiving hood separating them from the flow of materials, and conveyed to another point within the system or remote collection point. The heavier materials continue along the conveyor belts unaffected.
